Set in pre-Revolutionary France among aristocrats, this is a play for all times about sexual manners & manipulation. Craving revenge on an ex-lover, the Marquise de Merteuil persuades the rakish Valmont to deflower the man's young fiancée. Valmont has his own plan to seduce a society beauty famed for her piety and faithfulness. They proceed gleefully with their heartless schemes until unexpected feelings alter the course of events, with catastrophic consequences.
The play's director, Peter Moore, has said, "This is one of the most challenging plays I have ever been involved with. However, I'm lucky enough to be working with a very talented cast who have all been working extremely hard to bring this marvellous play to life. I'm sure that the end result will be a memorable series of performances."
Christopher Hampton's play was the basis for his own Oscar-winning film screenplay, 'Dangerous Liaisons', which starred John Malkovich, Glenn Close & Michelle Pfeiffer.
