Top of pageWith sadness we report that Eric passed away peacefully on 4th February 2008 after a long illness. Eric was a long time supporter of the society and was an active member in the 1980s and, following a gap of some years, rejoined in the late 1990s. Eric was chairman of the Society for five years until around a year ago and was an active supporter and enthusiast of local theatre, especially of pantomime, both at Ockley and nearby at Ifield.
He will be fondly remembered as a man of wit, integrity and a bon vivant.
R.I.P.

NOVEMBER PRESENTATION
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 13th, 14th, 15th November, 2003.
"MURDER BY THE BOOK"
A Thriller by Duncan Greenwood and Robert King
Directed by Eric Howker
Auditions will take place at "The Cricketers’ Arms", Ockley (dining room)
on Monday, 15th September, at 8.00 pm.
Although published in 1982, this two-act play is timeless and will be set in the present day. It is about a successful novelist and his estranged (actress) wife. The couple could be in their thirties, through to fifties. There is a younger couple - the writer’s secretary and the neighbour to whom she turns for help. A fifth character is the publisher, in early middle age.
For advance information and/or a script, please ring Eric on 01403 210277.

YOU ARE INVITED to join the members of Ockley’s only locally-based exponents of the performing arts, for a social evening of wine, nibbles and entertainment. You will be our guests. There will be no charge for admission or for the alcohol, etc. Although we obviously hope to end the evening with new members, there is no obligation to join the Society and no need to stay away simply because you do not wish to go on stage or become an active supporter behind the scenes.
Incidentally, becoming members does not just mean acting (although this talent is much in demand at present). With our regular pantomime presentations and more recent musical revue, we are always on the look-out for singers, dancers, choreographers and musicians. But additionally we need back-stagers (set designers, painters and builders; scene shifters, stage and props managers; lighting and sound technicians; prompts and wardrobe assistants) and people willing to help in the front of house (dealing with tickets, programmes, raffle, catering and running the bar) and with advance publicity and running the box office. Also we would welcome a camera expert to take still photographs.
If you cannot make 13th September but would be interested in joining us, please contact Martin Pratt, our Secretary, on 01306 628155, or Eric Howker, our Chairman, on 01403 210277.
